Reasons why 'Riverdale' should be your next Netflix binge

Image
So, season 2 of Riverdale has just aired its final episode. But don't get your snakes in a twist, season 3 is only a short wait away, expected for release this October 2018. Despite its popularity, I hear there are still people not obsessing over this show, but here are some reasons that should change your mind (without revealing spoilers).   1. What is this show even about?  -What is it not about? It has murder, mysteries, gangs, and meddling teenagers. It's basically scooby-doo but for adults (and there's even a dog! His name is Vegas).  2. Fun fact!  -Riverdale is based on a set of comics called "Archie Comics" which is the same comics that Sabrina the Teenage Witch is written by. Greendale (where Sabrina lives) is referenced a few times on the show, as it is just a town over. A crossover is definitely now possible since Netflix is rebooting our favourite Witch for a rumored 2019 release.  3. If the actors aren't enough...

Questions I have after watching 'A Quiet Place'

Image
'A Quiet Place' is the latest horror storming through cinemas. Within five days of being released, it has already gained a 97% Rotten Tomatoes rating and has been widely supported by critics. Featuring stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, a real-life married couple, fighting to protect their children against the new top predator. It takes place about three months after this apocalypse began, to set the tone and introduce the rules they follow- to be absolutely quiet. The characters communicate through sign language and have adapted ways to survive this new world. To sum up, this movie is a masterpiece and you absolutely must see it, but be warned- don't bring any noisy snacks. After recently watching this movie and accepting my new obsession, I have some unanswered questions- these include the movie itself and if this situation was ever inflicted upon us in real life. (SPOILERS AHEAD. You have been warned).    1. Where did these creatures come from? Are the...

The pros and cons of self-publishing

Image
If you haven't already, before starting your writing journey, you should accept that it's nearly impossible to make a living off your writing. In traditional publishing, the author will only make a few pennies off each book sold, and even though self-publishing gives a generous 70% of royalties to the author, it means you will have to sacrifice the time to advertise if you want to see those sales. Despite this, self-publishing is on the rise and becoming a popular route for alot of writers. Since I have just been through the experience of publishing my first book through Amazon, I thought I should talk about it. If you are considering doing the same, here are the pros and cons of self-publishing... Time & Money As I have read in other blog posts, self-publishing means you will be spending time on other aspects than just purely writing. You will have to spend time on formatting your book which I can honestly say is an absolute pain to do. You will need to ei...

The Walking Dead: When and Will they kill off Negan?

Image
After a year of putting this show on hold, I kick-started my love for it and rewatched the whole series just because I couldn't remember what episode I last watched. Now I am all caught up, with the recent episode featuring the death of a certain key character. Time and time again I hear fans losing interest in the show. The writers will drag out an arc for as long as humanly possible and beyond. With the Negan arc first popping its head at the end of season 6 and still being at large in the most recent- season 8. Here's me just wondering where all these Saviors are coming from as it wasn't too long ago the characters were wondering if there was anyone left alive outside of Alexandria. However, I can't complain. Despite Negan and his crew, he's actually become one of my favourite characters in the show. Even though he killed off my other favourites. He's easily the most interesting antagonist yet and pulls in my interest whenever he makes an appearance....

Should they have ended Grey's Anatomy?

Image
I have been a long-term fan of the show. Recently commiting to re-watching it for the third time and left wondering, what happened? Why do I find that the earlier seasons are the best, what's changed and why does it feel different when I watch the more recent episodes? Like any running show, the first and last season will obviously look very different. The show evolves, there's character development, the writers' learn what works and what doesn't. Unfortunately, I'm just finding myself not having the same connection to the characters as I did in the first few seasons. Then I realise. It's because they're not interns anymore. When we watch stories, it usually starts off with a blank slate character. They're thrown into a situation or a world, which is unknown to them and the viewer. The best part of watching is seeing them grow and experiencing this with them. But now, Meredith has reached the pinnacle of her story. She's grown into a talented...

The Greatest Showman 2017

Image
Why should you watch The Greatest Showman? Firstly, it stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams, and Rebecca Ferguson. That is one hell of a cast, but if you're not convinced, I'll continue (no spoilers). Being released in December 2017, it certainly can be argued to be the best film of the year. Set in the 19th Century, The Greatest Showman is a historical musical drama following the life of P.T. Barnum. It shows him as a child working with his father (a tailor) and immediately introduces his love interest, Charity. We follow them both through their lives until the present day and watch as P.T. Barnum creates one of the biggest successes in the history of entertainment. As someone that has only been recently introduced to musicals, it says a lot when I enjoy a musical and love every single song. The soundtrack of this movie is one of the greatest I have ever heard in a very long time. The songs are heart-pumping and emotional, they make you wan...

American Assassin (2017)

Image
American Assassin is a thriller/action movie starring Dylan O'Brien as self-trained assassin Mitch Rapp. His fiancee is killed by Islamic terrorists and he is recruited by a secret black-ops unit. Where Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) reluctantly trains him, until they receive an assignment to find and stop a nuclear bomb. If you've read other reviews on this movie, you'll notice that,  at least, 90% of them are negative. Some referring to the book it was based off, others to the poor script, inconsistent tone, and noting there is a lack of logic in the movie. They just roasted it until it became ashes. So, I feel the need to say it wasn't that bad. It really wasn't. I didn't regret watching it, it kept my attention, and Dylan O'Brien did save the movie. I'm not going to do a negative review because there's generally enough out there if you want to read them. What I am going to say, is that most of the people watching movies aren't experts (li...
