The Greatest Showman 2017

Why should you watch The Greatest Showman?
Firstly, it stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams, and Rebecca Ferguson. That is one hell of a cast, but if you're not convinced, I'll continue (no spoilers).
Being released in December 2017, it certainly can be argued to be the best film of the year. Set in the 19th Century, The Greatest Showman is a historical musical drama following the life of P.T. Barnum. It shows him as a child working with his father (a tailor) and immediately introduces his love interest, Charity. We follow them both through their lives until the present day and watch as P.T. Barnum creates one of the biggest successes in the history of entertainment.
As someone that has only been recently introduced to musicals, it says a lot when I enjoy a musical and love every single song. The soundtrack of this movie is one of the greatest I have ever heard in a very long time. The songs are heart-pumping and emotional, they make you want to jump out of your seat and dance with the astounding choreography. It is a soundtrack that you will immediately download off Spotify and listen on repeat for weeks after watching this movie. The choreography is perfectly designed for the songs and absolutely stunning. It has been a long time since dancing has even looked enticing enough to want to learn.
What I loved about the movie is that it didn't focus heavily on P.T. Barnum. It had its other characters on the main stage too and really made them all shine. The characters were strong and unique, and the movie would not have been the same if they only focussed on Barnum. The 'freaks' were definitely the best part, with emotional character developments from all of them, and truly a work of art in every scene.
However, there has been one common controversial opinion on this film. It has even deterred people from watching it. P.T. Barnum was not a good person in real life and a huge con-man. He didn't treat his 'freaks' right, and the Circus is known to abuse the animals they use. The movie does show the horrible side of Barnum but not completely accurate to real life. However, the movie itself is loosely based on his story and adapted heavily for our entertainment. I hope you can put that aside and enjoy the movie as it does deserve a chance.
Overall, you should watch this movie. It is funny, emotional, happy, and a feel-good film that you can watch alone or with a family. If you love musicals then this may be your new favourite. Get your singing voices ready.
