Questions I have after watching 'A Quiet Place'
'A Quiet Place' is the latest horror storming through cinemas. Within five days of being released, it has already gained a 97% Rotten Tomatoes rating and has been widely supported by critics. Featuring stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, a real-life married couple, fighting to protect their children against the new top predator. It takes place about three months after this apocalypse began, to set the tone and introduce the rules they follow- to be absolutely quiet. The characters communicate through sign language and have adapted ways to survive this new world. To sum up, this movie is a masterpiece and you absolutely must see it, but be warned- don't bring any noisy snacks.
After recently watching this movie and accepting my new obsession, I have some unanswered questions- these include the movie itself and if this situation was ever inflicted upon us in real life. (SPOILERS AHEAD. You have been warned).
1. Where did these creatures come from? Are they aliens? Failed (OR SUCCESSFUL) experiments? This movie never really explained it, and it didn't need to, but I need to know.
2. How quickly were most of human-kind wiped out? If my memory serves me right, it started with '86 days' since the apocalypse started. It shows the characters traveling in the city, in a shop, and already it looks like season 6 of 'The Walking Dead'. (TRIVIA: In this first scene, did you notice the only few foods left were bags of crisps/chips? - because they're too noisy to eat!)
3. Is that their house? Or did they just find it and think "Yes, this is PERFECT"?
4. In the scene where John Krasinski lit the fire and we see more fires in the distance, did all those people just meet up to discuss that they would all do that or was it just one person lighting a fire and another person did it and they all started doing it? ALSO I would approve of a sequel from one of those groups.
5. What were their names? I love how absorbing this movie was that it barely needed a script or to even introduce the characters by name.
6. Is every country in the same predicament? The creatures don't seem too indestructible. Surely with our weapons, we would stand a chance? OR are there just too many? I'd like to think that the characters moved more towards the countrysideish areas because there are fewer creatures. MAYBE there is an unimaginable amount and these characters just got lucky with the three.
7. If you were on a boat, would you be okay? My plan for every apocalypse situation is to find a boat and live at sea. BUT the movie does show that these ugly things can swim, which is just unfair.
8. Why keep the baby alive? In this situation, I would just accept that it's too much of a risk. Maybe that's just me.
9. WHY DID THAT MAN SEE JOHN AND HIS SON AND PUT THEM IN DANGER? You know the guy. What a prick.
10. Do these creatures hunt to kill or to feed? The movie leaned more towards just plain killing. Wouldn't it be funny if they were vegetarians?
11. If you caught a cold, would you just accept your death straight up? As someone that suffers from nearly monthly colds, I would guess that my death would be due to coughing.
12. If this does happen, can this family adopt me? Because they were PREPARED.
13. How long until tampon adverts use this movie as a way to advertise 'discreet packaging'?
14. Is this just the beginning? Could there be a franchise in the making? I would honestly love for this story to carry on as I have full faith in the writers and cast to make a sequel equally as amazing. Even if it isn't, I would still watch it. It has raised the bar and I need more movies like this.
15. What burning questions do you have? Let's discuss.
